NIKOLAI SHAPOVALOV
Nikolai Shapovalov is a guitar and drums teacher at the Montessori Center. A teacher, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with extensive live stage experience. He works with children and adults — from first chords and basic rhythms to stage preparation and studio recording.
Nikolai teaches classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, as well as drum set: acoustic and electronic.
Teaching approach. Nikolai combines modern methods, a solid technical foundation, and an individualized program tailored to each student’s goals. Lessons include plenty of hands-on practice, work with favorite repertoire, and development of groove and timing — building a confident sound both for soloists and rhythm-section players.
Students learn: hand position and sound production, rhythm and strict metronome discipline; reading tablature/notation; pick and fingerstyle technique; bends/legato/vibrato; accompaniment and soloing in rock, pop, funk, blues, and basic jazz; for drums—stick grip and rudiments, coordination, playing to a click, building drum parts; ensemble skills, stage presence, and preparation for performances and recording.
Lessons also cover concert and studio prep: repertoire selection and adaptation, technical planning (key, tempo, form), rehearsals with backing tracks/accompaniment, and advice on tone and gear (guitar processors, pedals, drum tuning, e-drums).
Nikolai has live and studio experience with leading artists, including Artem Pivovarov.
